Hasina to visit Tripura today, will get D.Litt.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed arrives here Wednesday on a two-day visit, when she will be conferred an honorary D.Litt. degree by Tripura Central University.
Vice-president Hamid Ansari will attend the convocation as chief guest. HRD minister Kapil Sibal will receive Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the Union government.
The Bangladesh leader, who will be accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehena Siddiki, will arrive by a special Bangladesh Biman flight. Agartala has temporarily been given the status of an international airport for this purpose. This will be the first visit by a foreign head of government to Tripura. Bangladesh foreign minister Dipu Moni and two other ministers are also part of the delegation.
Sheikh Hasina has a family connection here: her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited Tripura on a “secret mission” in 1963, which culminated in the 1967 Agartala conspiracy case, considered the first major step in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle.
