Haryana takes steps to check crime
In order to restore its image which took beating after alarming number of rape cases in last one month in Haryana, the state police has planned number of steps to check incidents of violence against women. Realising the gravity of the situation, the leave of all police personnel has been cancelled except in emergent cases.
Haryana director-general of police Ranjiv Singh Dalal said that strong directions have been issued to all superintendents of police, station house officers and chowki in-charges to carry out extensive touring in rural areas under their respective jurisdiction to identify vagabonds and take preventive action against such elements.
Mr Dalal was reviewing various steps taken by the inspector-generals of police and superintendents of police to check crime against women in their respective areas through video-conference here on Monday.
He said that state government had constituted district level committees, comprising district magistrate, superintendent of police and district attorney which would fortnightly review the progress of trial in rape cases. Mr Dalal said that accused in the recent Saccha Khera rape case have also been arrested. The police was determined that such incidents should not happen again, he added.
He said that Haryana police has also launched a drive to check drinking at unauthorised places. Surprise raids were being conducted on dhabas and shops in rural and urban areas.
To augment the resources, home guard volunteers were being called out till November 15, 2012.
