Hardcore Maoist surrenders in Orissa
Paralakhemundi: A hardcore Maoist, involved in several offences including killings and explosions, surrendered before police in Orissa's Gajapati district today, police said.
The rebel, identified as Naresh Muthamajhi (30) of Adaba area of the district, decided to lay down arms as he was disillusioned with the activities of the ultras, Gajapati Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Arora said.
Realising that the left wing extremists were devoid of any ideology and targetting innocent people, Naresh decided to return to the social mainstream, the SP said.
The rebel was allegedly involved in the killing of two village guards at Katamma in Gajapati district about three months ago, he said.
The ultra was active in Gajapati, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts. He was also involved in several other incidents including the blasting of a police outpost at Chandrapur in Rayagada district and a forest beat house in Adaba in Gajapati district in December last year, Arora said.
