Hafiz Saeed plans winter offensive
Specific intercepts gathered by Indian intelligence agencies following tedious investigations have revealed that LeT and Jamaat-ud-Dawa founder Hafiz Saeed, adopting a new modus operandi, is mobilising cadres for infiltration into India even during the winter. There is usually a sharp decline in infiltration during winter as heavy snow makes the mountain passes inaccessible. But Saeed, one of the most wanted terrorists in India, wants to reverse this trend.
A confidential report prepared by the intelligence agencies and submitted to the Union home ministry, which has been accessed by this newspaper, also reveals that Saeed is chalking out a fresh blueprint to target important Indian cities, particularly during the coming Assembly elections. The intelligence report shows that Islamabad has failed to curb Saeed’s activities and that he continues to plot against India.
Immediately after receiving the report, the home and defence ministries beefed up security along the India-Pakistan border.
According to the report, Saeed has held several meetings with operatives at Muridke, Lahore and Peshawar Cantonment where he directed that more LeT operatives, specially trained for operating in high-altitude terrain, should be pushed across the border. “One such meeting was held by Saeed at a hideout at Hasrat Mohani Street, near Fawara Chowk, where he took stock of the LeT cadres training at various camps in PoK. He then directed that at least 500 of the best-trained militants be immediately launched into Kashmir. At the same meeting he also insisted that important Indian cities be targeted again for a spectacular strikes...,” the report states.
