The National Students' Union of India (NSUI), along with students from various faculties at the Amity University campus here, demonstrated on Tuesday against the university administration and police for not taking any action against those whom they alleged were responsible for the suicide of MBA aspirant Dana Sangma.

NSUI's district president Niraj Singh along with a large number of supporters demonstrated at the main gate of the Amity University here in Pachgaon on National Highway 8.

Niraj Singh said: "Students at Amity seem to be tense and under high pressure from the university administration. Looking at the inaction after the suicide of Dana Sangma, they fear for their future."

"More than 400 students from Amity took part in the demonstration," Singh claimed.

Amity's Haryana Deputy Vice Chancellor Major General (retd) B.S. Suhag later came to the gate to appease the agitating students. He assured them that justice would be done.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma's daughter Maina Shera, who is also a cousin of deceased Dana Sangma said that on Wednesday, a candle-light vigil would be held at Delhi's India Gate for Dana.

Maina, a student of Delhi's Shri Ram college said the students would agitate until the truth came out.

Agitating students said Dana was not only accused of cheating, invigilator Supereo Ghatak had also threatened 'to finish her career'. Later in examination controller R.K. Dhingra's room, she was tagged with the words 'flop show'.

Protestors were anguished over the working of Haryana police too. Police have registered a case against the university administration under the SC/ST Atrocities Act and section 306 (abetting suicide) of the Indian Penal Code but no one had been detained so far.

Police have assured the agitating students that the forensic reports of Dana's mobile and parts of the answer sheet would come out in two to three days and strong action would be taken against the guilty.

Niraj Singh said demonstrations would be held at a bigger level if proper action from both the University and police was not taken in time.

Meanwhile, a five-member committee, constituted under the chairmanship of Pro-vice chancellor Padmakali Banerjee, was to submit its report before April 30, but no such report has come yet.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Major General Suhag said the report was to be submitted to the Vice Chancellor.

Dana allegedly committed suicide after she was caught cheating from her mobile phone during an examination April 24 and was subsequently expelled by the invigilator.
