Gujjars off rail tracks, agree to talk
The agitating Gujjar leaders agreed to hold talks after keeping senior officials waiting for the whole day in Bayana town under Bharatpur district. The Gujjars also withdrew from the rail tracks connecting Delhi to Mumbai, where they were squatting for a week. But the Gujjar leaders refused to call off the agitation.
According to government sources, the Gujjar leaders sent the message twice to the officials camping in Bayana for talks, but even after hours, no one turned up for talks. “We hope talks will take place on Thursday,” says urban development secretary G.S. Sandhu. Differences also surfaced among Gujjar leaders over the issue of talks.
Former BJP MLA Prahald Gunjal said the community cannot trust Col. K.S. Bainsla. The Gujjar leaders were in dilemma and seems divided on the agitation. A section of Gujjars, led by former Delhi MLA Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, staged a sit-in in Jaipur and demanded five per cent reservation for the community. A strong section of Gujjars withdrew their agitation in Dausa district where they had occupied the rail lines between Delhi and Jaipur for a week. “The Gujjars leaders called off their stir and returned to their villages,” said inspector general of police Rajiv Dasot from Dausa.
According to the railway sources, it will be a big help for passengers as over 50 passenger trains pass through the Dausa. But the Mumbai Delhi route is still blocked because of the agitation.
