Gujjar faction calls gathering
A breakaway group of the Gujjar community has called for a “Mahapadav (mass gathering) at Matrkundia, in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, on May 27. The working president of the Gujjar Mahasabha, former BJP minister Kalulal Gujjar, said the community will formulate its strategy to achieve the goal of five per cent reservation for the community.
The breakaway group had rejected the accord signed between Gujjar leader K.S. Bainsla and Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot. The group is backed by the BJP as the organisers said BJP MLA Hem Singh Bhadana, former BJP minister Nathu Singh, former BJP MLA Prahlad Gunjal would be present at the Mahapadav.
The ruling Congress pointed out that it was the saffron party that could not digest the peace and was attempting to incite caste sentiments. The BJP received a jolt when Mr Bainsla resigned from the party and praised the Congress government for making peace with the community and blamed Gujjar leaders from outside the state for creating problems.
