‘Gujarat to move SC on lokayukta’
Talking about the lokayukta appointment issue in Gandhinagar, the Gujarat government’s spokesperson and health minister Jaynarayan Vyas said, “We accept the verdict of the high court. But our points remain and we will challenge this decision in the Supreme Court after consultations with legal experts.”
Accusing the BJP of “hypocrisy” and “double standards” on fighting corruption, the Congress said the court order was the beginning of jolts for the “corrupt” Modi government ahead of the electoral battle by the year-end. Union minister Kapil Sibal said that the court order upholding the appointment of lokayukta by the governor exposes the BJP on the issue of fighting corruption and Narendra Modi should now “quietly accept” the verdict.
Alleging that the BJP misled the government, Parliament and the nation on the issue, AICC in-charge for Gujarat Mohan Prakash, said the saffron party should “apologise to the nation” and Mr Modi should step down on moral grounds.
Welcoming the verdict, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said the order is a jolt to the chief minister. “This is the beginning. Many more such jolts will be there for Mr Modi,” he said.
