Gujarat Cong slams SIT chief
The Gujarat Congress here on Sunday attacked the Supreme Court-appointed SIT head R.K. Raghavan alleging he has received favours from the Gujarat government.
The Opposition party has also hit out at chief minister Narendra Modi for “favouring Tata group in Nano car deal brokered by Niira Radia”.
“The Modi government has paid for Raghavan’s private trips to London in order to save their skin from the cases the top court or ordered to probe,” Mr Shaktisinh Gohil, Gujarat’s Leader of the Opposition, alleged while addressing Congress workers in Rajkot.
According to Mr Shaktisinh Gohil, the Modi government provided a loan of over `9,500 crore to the Tata Group for shifting the Nano plant from West Bengal to Gujarat.
“This loan has been extended at throwaway interest rates and payable after 20 years. This loan is more than 300 per cent against the Tatas’ investment of 2200 crore in the plant at Sanand,” he said, stressing that the deal was brokered between Tata and Mr Modi by corporate lobbyist Niira Radia.
The Congress leader has demanded a probe by an independent agency in the matter.
On Mr Raghavan, he said he is associated with the Tata group and therefore he has been favoured by the Modi government.
“There is complete lack of confidence in the SIT headed by Raghavan and there should be a detailed probe in the matter,” he added.
It may be noted that the opposition party has been aggressively attacking the state government for the Nano deal in the ongoing budget session of the state assembly.
