Gujarat bans use of mobile phones in schools, colleges
In the first instance of its kind in the country, Gujarat Government has banned use of mobile phones in schools and colleges, saying it was affecting educational activities in the institutes.
A resolution to this effect was passed by the state education department on Saturday, official sources said on Sunday.
According to the resolution, students up to class 12 will not be allowed to take mobile phones inside the school premises, while college students are allowed to carry their instruments along with them but not permitted to use them.
Even teachers, staff, parents and visitors will not be allowed to use cell phones in places like classroom, library and laboratory, a government release said.
The state government has requested the authorities of schools and colleges to provide land-line phone facility within the campus for students and staff.
