Guj ex-DGP hits out at SIT chief
Former Gujarat DGP Mr R.B. Sreekumar had submitted before the Supreme Court as early as in May last year that the SIT probe into the murder of Congress MP Mr Ehsan Jafri was going haywire.
He pointed out that SIT chairman Mr R.K. Raghavan was an employee of Tata, which was heavily favoured by Gujarat Chief Minister Mr Narendra Modi. The Tata Nano car project shifting to Gujarat from West Bengal had drawn Mr Modi closer to the Tatas. So there was apparently a conflict of interest.
Mr Sreekumar also alleged that Mr Raghavan had given SIT officials from Gujarat police a free hand in investigation of riots-related cases.
“Consequently, the Modi government has succeeded in effectively neutralising the impact of the SIT investigation against planners and executors of the 2002 riots,” he said.
