U.P. govt workers call off strike
The state government employees who had been on strike since December 13 in protest against the quota in promotion bill, finally called off their strike on Thursday night.
The decision to call off the strike came after the bill seeking for quota in promotion to SCs/STs got stuck in Lok Sabha.
Mr Shailendra Dubey, president of Sarvjan Hitai Sanrakshan Samiti, which was spearheading the agitation, said, “We had decided to continue the strike till the ongoing session of the Parliament, and today, the bill faced obstacles in the Lok Sabha where it was taken up for consideration.”
“Since the winter session of Parliament is over, we are calling off our strike and will meet soon to decide our future course of action.”
Nearly 18 lakh state government employees had been on strike since the past eight days, paralysing all work in government offices.
