U.P. govt set to withdraw Amar cases
The festive season seems to be filling the winter air with goodwill, and a major patchup seems imminent.
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav is reportedly on a patchup mode with former confidant Amar Singh.
In a first indication of this, Uttar Pradesh’s Samajwadi government has decided to withdraw money-laundering cases filed in 2009 against Mr Singh. The cases have been transferred from the Economic Offences Wing to the state police, which is likely to file the final report soon.
The cases were registered during the Mayawati period on a complaint by Kanpur-based businessman Shivkant Tripathi. An FIR charged Mr Singh and Mr Amitabh Bachchan with involvement in a major fraud of `500 crores through money-laundering.
The Samajwadi Party had then termed the FIR as a “conspiracy”, and said it sensed Ms Mayawati had a “hand in it”.
The withdrawal of cases now clearly indicates the SP government is keen to extend an olive branch to the estranged leader.
