UP govt failed to deliver Centre’s policies: Rahul
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who embarked on his five-day mass contact programme on Tuesday reiterated that the UP government had failed to deliver the sops announced by the Centre and the irregularities in the MGNREGA and NHRM were enough proof about the failures of the government.
“The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in the state has assumed such proportions that the official records show that just one woman has been giving birth to children every week. This is the extent of corruption in this state and the poor are not getting the benefits of funds sent for them,” he said.
Mr Rahul Gandhi stressed on the “aadhar” programme and informed that with aadhar or UID programme, the government could provide amounts of grants directly to the people’s accounts.
He said that the non-Congress governments in the state since the past 22 years were solely responsible for the state of affairs in UP.
Mr Gandhi’s five-day yatra in six districts in central and eastern UP, namely Barabanki, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddhartha Nagar, Maharajganj and Kushinagar, according to party sources, is designed for interaction with party workers, apart from the common people, and iron out differences within the party over ticket distribution.
“With the mood upbeat in the Congress, there are several claimants for tickets in each segment and there is bound to be some resentment because everyone cannot get the ticket. Mr Gandhi, through his mass contact programme will meet party workers and convince them to remain united in the elections,” said a senior Congress leader accompanying Mr Gandhi.
