GoM doesn’t discuss model code
A high-powered GoM, which met on Wednesday over the draft Public Procurement Bill, did not discuss the contentious issue of giving statutory backing to the model code of conduct which will have meant taking it out of the purview of the Election Commission.
Talking to the media following the meeting, the minister of state for personnel V. Narayanasamy said, “I want to clarify that the terms of reference of the GoM does not include the code of conduct. So the question of the GoM discussing the issue of code of conduct does not arise.”
When asked that the note circulated among the GoM members did mention the code of conduct issue, Mr Narayanasamy said that during discussion several suggestions come up but these are not part of the terms of reference.
Earlier, the government had denied any attempt on its part to curtail powers of the poll panel.
