Gogoi completes 12 years as cm, hopes for peace
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who completed 12 years in office on Saturday, said that dissidence and revolt by a small section of legislators was not the biggest challenge of his tenure.
Asserting that winning over the confidence of the people and fulfilling their hopes and aspirations have always been a challenge for him, Mr Gogoi said, “Our biggest achievement is the peace that we have succeeded in restoring in the state. Assam was reeling under the spate of militant violence in 2001 when we took over.” Equating the civilian killings, which were over 412 in 2000, Mr Gogoi said, “In 2012, it has come down to 39. It reflects that our policy on dealing the insurgency has yielded positive results.”
