Goa resignations: CM rushes to Delhi
Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday rushed to Delhi following the resignation of two ministers from his Cabinet on Saturday.
Churchill Alemao and his brother Joaquim tendered their resignation after Churchill’s daughter Valanka was disqualified for the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (GPYCC) polls. Mr Kamat had said on Saturday that he had asked Alemao brothers to be patient. He claimed he had not get their resignations yet.
But on Sunday morning, the chief minister left for the national capital to consult the party high command.
Valanka too is going to Delhi to get an audience with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Back in Goa, Churchill told PTI that they were serious about leaving the party. “We are awaiting communication from chief minister. He has asked us to wait for a day,” he said.
Churchill said the Youth Congress elections in Goa were grossly manipulated. “There is a clause that those who are having police cases against them should not contest. But there are candidates facing police cases.”
Valanka was disqualified by the election commission of the Youth Congress for trying to influence the voters using her father’s political clout.

Trouble brewing in J’khand BJP

July 24: Already battling the Karnataka crisis, trouble is also brewing for the BJP in Jharkhand as well where its alliance partner Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is now demanding removal of chief minister Arjun Munda. The BJP is ruling the state along with the JMM and All-Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU).
Sources disclosed that after the alliance lost the important Jamshedpur LS seat during the recently held bypolls, the JMM has started mounting pressure on the BJP central leadership to remove Mr Munda, who it blames for the loss.
Mr Munda was an MP from Jamsdhepur before he was appointed to the top post in the state. The JMM had staked its claim on the Jamshedpur seat. But the coalition partners failed to arrive on a consensus for a common candidate and all three — BJP, JMM and AJSU — fielded separate candidates in the bypoll. The seat, however, was won by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha’s candidate Ajay Kumar. The JMM is blaming Mr Munda for the loss as BJP’s candidate Dineshanand Goswami is considered close to him. Mr Goswami, also the BJP’s state unit chief, had resigned after the loss but the BJP central leadership did not accept his resignation.
