Gloom and doom prevails, says BJP
“If the country is rid of the present government and people are given a fresh opportunity to elect a new government it would be in the best interest of the country,” said senior BJP leader L.K. Advani.
The principal Opposition also maintained that it was aware that the government is unlikely to listen to the President if asked to hold early polls but they would be under public pressure if Mr Mukherjee makes the move. The delegation included both the Leaders of Opposition — Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley— senior leaders M. Venkaiah Naidu, Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha, Murli Manohar Joshi and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The party claimed the government’s “reckless policies” have ruined the fundamentals of the economy and freefall of the rupee is only a symptom of the deeper malaise affecting it.
The memorandum said, “An atmosphere of gloom and doom prevails in the country. We shudder to think of the unbearable consequences all these developments are going to have on the common man.”
The party also accused the government of living in denial and blaming everybody except for itself for the crisis, including RBI, the Opposition, states and global factors.
