Girl's hand chopped off, mother injured in attack by youth

A 16-year old girl had her hand sliced off and her mother hacked repeatedly allegedly by the girl's private tutor in Dhalai district of Tripura, police said today.

Police said one Sanjoy Das (40) allegedly pounced on 16-year old daughter Susmita and her mother Rina Das with a sharp weapon and chopped off one hand of the girl on the outskirts of sub-divisional town of Kamalpur yesterday.
Sanjoy, who is now under police custody, had consumed poison immediately after the incident and was now being treated at Kamalpur Hospital under escort,sources said.

A profusely bleeding Susmita and her mother Rina Das, who suffered multiple injuries while trying to shield her daughter, had to be shifted to Gobinda Ballav Pant Medical College and Hospital here from Kamalpur Hospital as their condition was stated to be critical.

According the the sources, inquiries has revealed Susmita had spurned Sanjoy's advances recently which might have enraged the tutor.
