Girl, 14, dies in honour killing case
In yet another case of suspected honour killing, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly strangled to death and the body dumped into a drain at Champanura area in Rohtak, a senior police official said here on Sunday.
“Tapasya, a Class 9 student of a private school in Rohtak, was allegedly killed on the directions of her father by their domestic servant and later her body was dumped in a drain on the outskirts of Rohtak town,” Rohtak SSP Satish Balan said. On December 2, the girl’s father, a retired government official, lodged a police complaint against three students of her school alleging that she was lured by them to elope. However, during investigation it was found that the youths were innocent and the police zeroed on the domestic help Mohan, he said.

CRPF jawan killed in Naxal attack

Dec. 26: One jawan was killed and two others injured when a search party of CRPF personnel was ambushed by Maoist guerrillas in a forest in Chhattisgarh’s restive Dantewada district early on Sunday morning, the police said.
The patrolling party comprising 25 personnel of CRPF’s second battalion was returning to their base camp at Sukma in the district when the Naxals suddenly opened fire on them at Chitpal inside Karlapal forest. One CRPF jawan, Manveer Saha, was killed on the spot after a bullet hit him on his neck. Two other troopers — S.K. Khajuria and Ajey Kumar — sustained bullet injuries.

NRI woman, relatives dupe man, booked
Nurmahal (Punjab), Dec. 26: An Indian origin Canadian woman and her relatives have been booked on charges of duping a man here on the pretext of taking him abroad, the police said on Sunday. Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Bhandaal Bootan village near Nurmahal town in Jalandhar district, married Canadian citizen Ranjit Kaur in December 2007. Ranjit promised to assist Sarabjit in migrating to Canada after marriage, a police official said. “It was a contract marriage and Ranjit’s parents had assured my family members of taking me to Canada and to help in getting permanent residence there. We paid for air tickets of Ranjit, her parents and brothers,” Sarabjit said. —IANS

Gangster Act slapped on BSP MLA
Lucknow, Dec. 26: The Gangster Act has been slapped on BSP MLA Bhagwan Sharma and eight others, who are in jail, for allegedly abducting 14 block development committee members during election to local bodies in Uttar Pradesh recently.
“The Gangster Act has been slapped on the MLA and eight others for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and illegal confinement of BDC members during election to a local body in Bulandshahar district,” a home department official said here.
Sharma represents Dibai seat in the state Assembly.
