Gift 40 LS seats, Jayalalithaa tells cadres
Chief minister Jayalalithaa has forbidden her cadres from holding grand celebrations for her birthday (February 24) and instead sought 40 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 elections as her best birthday gift.
She said in a statement, “Winning the 40 LS seats will the best birthday gift you (cadres) can give me.
Start working for it from now.” Emphasizing that she followed absolute simplicity in public life on the lines of her political mentor MGR, the AIADMK chief said that she would only be worried if they indulged in unwanted grandeur to celebrate her birthday on February 24.
She also cautioned that it was such ostentatious behaviour that did the earlier DMK regime in as its extravaganza didn’t amuse people. The pompous celebrations of the DMK were one of the reasons for its Assembly poll drubbing, she remarked.
“It has been nine months since the AIADMK returned to power. The government has not indulged in any extravaganza.
Even government schemes are inaugurated only through video conferencing mode to save taxpayers money, “she pointed advising cadres to take cue from it and reach out to the poor and needy besides maintaining low key during her birthday.
This is the second instance that Jayalalithaa had expressed her keenness in sweeping the ensuing LS polls and securing a status of national significance for her party.
