Gen. Brar case: trial of 3 men on January 18
Three men charged for an attack on Lt. Gen. Kuldip Singh Brar (Retd) were produced at Southwark crown court in London on Friday and they were remanded in custody till January 18, when the date of their trial will be fixed.
Thirty-three-year old Barjinder Singh Sangha, 34-year-old Mandeep Singh Sandhu and 36-year-old Dilbag Singh were produced in court but the pre-trial plea and case management hearing was postponed to January 18 by the judge. The primary discussion in the case will be held on January 7.
The three men did not make any plea on Friday and did not apply for bail too. Sangha’s bail plea had been dismissed by Westminster magistrates’ court in October.
The custody period of Sangha and Sandhu expires on April 7 this year and for Dilbag Singh on May 24. The trial is expected to start before then.
Lt. Gen. Brar (Retd) was attacked in London by a group of four unidentified men on September 30. The Met police has till now made 19 arrests as part of its investigation into the attack on Lt. Gen. Brar (Retd). However, only three persons have been charged for attacking the 78-year-old general, who led the controversial Operation Bluestar in Amritsar in 1984.
Lt. Gen. Brar, who has faced numerous death threats since commanding the controversial Operation Bluestar, had described the attack on him and his wife by four men as an assassination attempt by Khalistan-linked extremists.

Stir in b’luru, police security heightened
Age Correspondent
bengaluru, Dec. 7
Opposing the Karnataka government’s move to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu on the direction of the Supreme Court, some Kannada outfits, including the T.A. Narayana Gowda faction of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, staged a protest early on Friday near the residence of the chief minister Jagadish Shettar.
Mr Gowda and his supporters shouted slogans against the government for releasing water to Tamil Nadu when people in the state, including Bengaluru, are themselves faced with an acute shortage of water. He also demanded the immediate resignation of the chief minister as he is going against the assurance given to farmers that water would not be released at any cost.
The protesters were immediately arrested by the police and released later in the day. Meanwhile posters of a Tamil movie at the Nataraja Theatre near Mantri Mall were also torn by some miscreants in the night. Following the protest call by outfits in the city, police have geared up to avert any untoward incident. Security arrangements have been made in Tamil-dominated areas.
