Geelani's hawala grilling
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday said it has asked hardline Hurriyat leader S. A. R. Geelani to indicate a 'convenient' date and time when he could meet an officer investigating the case of hawala transactions in which a close aide of his was arrested in December.
Geelani has been asked not to leave Delhi till he has been examined in connection with the investigation of the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arun Kampani said.
The 81-year-old Hurriyat leader had been asked via a letter on February 17 to meet the investigating officer regarding questioning of Gulam Mohd Bhatt.
During his police remand, Bhatt had allegedly disclosed his association and financial dealings with the Hurriyat faction led by Geelani, the DCP said in a release.
Geelani had then expressed his inability due to medical reasons for the said meeting. In response to his reply another letter was sent asking him to indicate the date and time convenient as per his health condition to meet the Investigating Officer.
He was further asked not to leave Delhi till he has been examined in connection with the investigation of the case.
In December, the special cell had arrested four persons, including Bhatt, for allegedly sending Hawala money to Jammu and Kashmir.
