Geelani vouched for LeT suspect
Central intelligence agencies have got information that top separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had given a letter of recommendation to Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militant Ahtisham Ahmed Malik, arrested by the Delhi police Wednesday, to help him get a Pakistani visa. Ahtisham went to Pakistan in December 2011 for training in explosives and is the main accused in the conspiracy to carry out terror attacks in New Delhi and Srinagar.
Union home ministry officials confirmed getting this input from the Intelligence Bureau. The Delhi police is considering questioning Mr Geelani on the matter, but his spokesperson Ayaz Akbar denied having any information.
The Delhi police on Thursday arrested one more suspected LeT operative, Taufeeq Ahmed Pir, from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, taking the total number of arrests to three in the past two days.
