GDP Q2 growth slips to 2-year low at 6.9%
India’s GDP grew at 6.9 per cent in the July to September quarter (Q2) — the slowest in over two years — as high interest rates, inflation and negative global factors took their toll on industrial production.
What is worrying is that this is the fourth straight quarter that economic growth has slowed down. It is also the third straight quarter in which growth has fallen below the crucial eight-per-cent level.
Economists now expect GDP to grow by around seven per cent, much lower than the approximately nine per cent projected in the Budget. “Though second quarter estimates of GDP are low by our recent growth experience, yet, considering the current global context and the slowdown in the domestic industrial sector, the growth performance is not all that disappointing,” finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a statement issued by his office. Mr Mukher-jee said growth in the whole fiscal will come down to around 7.3 per cent, according to agency reports.

Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Nov. 30
The Delhi high court on Wednesday issued notice to the CBI on the bail plea of sacked CWG Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi in a Commonwealth Gam-es-related scam case.
Mr Kalmadi sought bail citing the Supreme Court judgment on the basis of which 11 accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case have been granted bail.
His counsel claimed he is not required to stay in custody anymore as the CBI had on November 3 informed the trial court that the investigation in the case was complete.
