Gangrape victim, 11, undergoes operation
The 11-year-old gangrape victim in Sikar again underwent a major operation on Saturday at J.K. Lone Hospital in Jaipur. This was the fifth time she was operated upon which was followed by reconstructive surgeries. “A team of expert doctors conducted the operation successfully and her condition is improving,” says Dr S.D. Sharma, superintendent of the hospital.
According to Dr Sharma, the patient has been shifted to the general ward. “It will take a week and a half before she can be discharged from the hospital,” says Dr Sharma. Her mother and sister expressed satisfaction over the operation and treatment. “Now, there is no need for another operation,” says Dr Sharma.
“I was present at the hospital to support the victim during the operation. We hope for the best for her,” says Nasima Khatoon, a social worker from Shekhawati. Hailing from Bihar, the victim was kidnapped while she was with her sister in Sikar and gangraped. The incident occurred on August 20, 2012. The victim was thrown by the roadside near Sikar after the gangrape.
The victim suffered serious injuries on her vagina as she was raped with brutality. Since then, she has been struggling with pain and trauma. She lost her father only a few months back and subsequently migrated to Sikar with her mother and two sisters. We were busy with our work in the industrial area of Sikar, but it was our ill fate that my daughter was subjected to such brutality,” says her mother.
The police had arrested all of the six accused including the main accused Suresh Jat and Ramesh Sharma. The administration posted security guards at the hospital ward when the victim’s family sought security and received threats. The chief minister Ashok Gehlot sanctioned `five lakh to the victim as help and ordered for free treatment. The money has been deposited in her name.
Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva also visited the victim and gave her aid of `51,000. The Bihar government is also in touch with the family and has assured all help.
