Gandhi's name replaced by Lenin in Tripura textbook
The opposition Congress on Monday criticised the Left Front government in Tripura for replacing the name of Mahatma Gandhi with that of Lenin in a school textbook and threatened to launch a movement unless Gandhi's name was restored.
Leader of opossion Rantan Lal Nath alleged that the names of Socrates, Abraham lincoln and Karl Marx were kept and Lenin's name inserted in place of Mahatma Gandhi in the class five textbook published and prepared by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
"I also respect Lenin and Karl Marx and am not against deletion of their biographies from the text book, but what angered me is the deletion of Mahatma Gandhi's name from the text book. I think it is tantamount to insult the Mahatma and a well moved plan to brainwash the students' in Marxist line", he told reporters.
The leader of the oppostion apprised the chief minister of the matter seeking appropriate penal measures against the erring SCERT officials.
