Gadkari set to be part of modi panel
Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari is likely to be one of the members of the party’s campaign committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls that is headed by Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.
Mr Gadkari’s possible inclusion in it is being viewed as a final rebuff to patriarch L.K. Advani’s earlier attempts to set up a parallel election committee to be headed by Mr Gadkari.
Mr Advani is upset over Mr Modi’s elevation and at the growing clamour within the party for the Gujarat CM to be projected as its PM candidate.
Mr Advani himself is eyeing the post.
In a clear signal to Muslims, the poll panel is also likely to include party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Senior leaders Ananth Kumar, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ravi Shankar Prasad along with general secretaries Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda and Siddharth Nath Singh may be part of the poll panel.
Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley are, however, unlikely to be among its members.
