Former militant shot dead

A former militant has been shot dead by unidentified ultras in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said on Saturday.

Showkat Ahmad Malik, a former militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, was shot at by ultras inside his house late last night in Pulwama, 32 kms from here, they said.Malik was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to injuries in the wee hours today, they said.

The motive behind the killing of the former ultra, who was released after serving jail term, is still not clear. Meanwhile, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for Malik's killing.
