Foreign secys of India, Pak will hold talks later in June
The foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are expected to meet later in June, the external affairs ministry’s spokesman said Thursday. Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao had conveyed this to a team of visiting Pakistani journalists who called on her, the spokesman said in a Twitter posting.
The two foreign secretaries had last met in February on the margins of a Saarc meeting in Bhutan. After that, the two countries had announced resumption of the bilateral dialogue suspended after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008. The home, water resources, commerce and defence
secretaries have met since then.
Ms Rao told the Pakistani journalists that India’s demand that Pakistan should do more to bring the 26/11 perpetrators to justice was not an “unrealistic” one. “We are not asking for the moon. We are not asking for unrealistic things. We are asking for justice,” PTI quoted her as saying.
Ms Rao said India was committed to a dialogue with Pakistan. “India showed courage to resume the dialogue as we believe it is the best way to resolve problems peacefully. But we must not be impatient,” she said.
