Forces increase vigil in Valley
Security forces have stepped up vigil in Jammu and Kashmir following infiltration attempts by cross border outfits and the proposed BJP’s “Ekta Yatra” where the party plans to hoist the tricolour in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area on Republic Day.
On Friday, the BSF gunned down one militant foiling an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Akhnoor sector of Jammu province.
BSF sources in New Delhi said that there is an apprehension amongst the border guarding forces that anti-national elements may try to foment trouble in the Valley in the run up to the Republic Day.
“We believe that the militant was on a recce mission for certain cross-border outfits who may be planning to create disturbance in the Valley,” an official said. The official did not rule out attempts by anti-national elements from fomenting trouble during the proposed BJP yatra.
Rallying behind the Jammu and Kashmir government in its decision to stop the BJP’s “Ekta Yatra”, a government official said that the BJP yatra will not be able to reach Lal Chowk area.
The Union home ministry has put 30 companies (3,000 personnel) of paramilitary forces at the disposal of the state government for deployment during the yatra.
Government sources expressed confidence that the BJP’s “Ekta Yatra” will be stopped mid-way.
