Food inflation rises to 15.10%
Food inflation jumped to 15.10 per cent for the week ending September 4 under the new series.
The food inflation rate was 11.47 per cent in the previous week, but this data was part of the old series and under different parameters, so the two figures are not really comparable.
Anand Rathi Financial Services chief economist Sujan Hajra attributed the jump in food prices to floods in North India. “We have seen that whenever there are floods, the price of food, particularly that of perishable items, goes up,” said Mr Hajra.
He said he expected these prices to fall substantially by the end of the current year.
