FM calls for logjam end
New Delhi, Feb. 7: The Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, has his task cut out when he faces Opposition parties to discuss their demand for a JPC probe into the 2G scam on Tuesday.
While the BJP remains adamant on the JPC, restating its case on Monday, the Left is willing to have a discussion on the issue in Parliament but still wants the JPC. Smaller parties like the SP and the RJD have indicated that they are against disrupting Parliament over the issue.
What will be really significant at Tuesday’s meeting is the stand taken by UPA allies like the Trinamul Congress and the NCP.
On Monday, Mr Mukherjee, who is also Leader of the Lok Sabha, questioned the logic behind the JPC demand at a meeting convened by the Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, with single-member parties and Independent MPs.
