Five shoe hits is punishment for rape in UP
A village panchayat in Jyotiba Phule Nagar has fixed five shoe hits as punishment for rape.
A young man, found guilty of having raped a married woman in the forest on Saturday, was hit with a shoe five times when the matter was brought to the knowledge of the panchayat on Sunday.
The village panchayat, according to sources, held in the Kotwali area of the district, also prevented the victim and her husband from lodging a complaint with the police. The panchayat ruled that if the matter was brought up before the police, it would malign the image of the village as well as the community.
