Finally, a weekly off for cops in Uttar Pradesh
Constables and sub-inspectors in Uttar Pradesh will finally get a weekly off which will enable them to spend time with their families.
The decision to offer an off-day to policemen across the state was taken after the pilot project launched at the Gomti Nagar police station in May yielded positive results and showed the cops in a happier frame of mind.
Senior police official said on Thursday that the state government had decided to extend the weekly holiday benefit to all cops in the state.
The concept of a weekly off — hitherto unknown in the police force — was the brainchild of Lucknow DIG Navneet Sikera who launched it on a trial basis in the Gomti Nagar police station. According to the DIG, the idea was to bring the cops closer to their families, allow them to spend time with them and encourage them to work with greater efficiency. He said that the results in the Gomti Nagar police station were “extremely positive” and the cops were seen working with double energy after the weekly off. DGP Devraj Nagar has now asked district police chiefs to implement the schemes in their respective districts in a phased manner. However, the weekly offs can be cancelled in emergency situations, the official added.
