UP finally reinstates Durga
The Uttar Pradesh government, on Sunday night issued a one-line press statement saying that the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal had been revoked.
“The state government has revoked the suspension of IAS officer Nagpal and reinstated her,” a one-line official statement issued here said.
However, the state government has not yet given a posting to the officer who was suspended on July 27 for allegedly ordering the demolition of a mosque wall in Greater Noida.
The suspension of Ms Nagpal who had dared to take on the sand mafia in Greater Noida, and this was believed to be the main reason for action against her, had led to national outrage and had earned considerable flak for the Akhilesh Yadav government.
UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had said she was suspended for arbitrarily ordering the demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village.
“Her action threatened to destroy communal peace,” Mr Yadav had said.
