Fertilisers from YSR kin seized

Kadapa, Sept. 14: Police at Alamkhanpalli seized 102 tonnes of complex fertilisers being taken in six trucks from Balaji Fertlisers run by the Kadapa mayor, Mr P. Ravindranath Reddy, the brother-in-law of the former chief minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

The fertiliser, worth about ` 10 lakh, was being taken from the factory in Kadapa to Anantapur and Kurnool districts.

Sources said that the superintendent of police, Mr Tarun Joshi, got a phone call from unidentified persons alleging that fertilisers were being illegally transported from the mayor’s factory in six trucks. The SP immediately alerted the Kadapa two-town inspector, Mr Venkatadri, and Chennur police to inspect the trucks.

Meanwhile, Mr Reddy accused the police of seizing his trucks without reason and said transportation of fertilisers was delayed due to festival holidays. He ruled out any irregularities in his factory.
