Family attempts suicide at DGP’s office
Bengaluru: Alleging that a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police was cheating them in connection with a land dispute, a family of four tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at the office of the DG&IGP on Nrupatunga Road on Wednesday evening.
They were rushed to a nearby private hospital and their condition is said to be stable. They have been identified as Mahesh, 38, his wife Dakshayini, 32, their daughter Divya, 16 and son Chandan, 11. The family from Arakere village in Tumkur district runs a catering business.
The police said the family addressed a press meet at the Press Club on Wednesday morning, where they briefed the media about ACP’s alleged cheating.
They later consumed poison at an unknown placed and arrived at the DG&IGP’s office around 4.30 pm. They gave a note to a police staff stating that they were taking the extreme step as they did not get justice. Before the police could read it, they vomited and fell unconscious. They were rushed to the hospital.
Earlier, Dakshayini told the media at the Press Club that Subbanna, who retired as ACP, Madivala subdivision, had cheated them in connection with a land dispute. “We have our ancestral properties worth around Rs 20 crore in Arakere village near Madhugiri on B.H. Road. I have two brothers and they were not willing to give me my share of the property. I had moved court. Subbanna was serving as circle inspector in Tumkur then and he was close to my brother Somashekhar. He convinced us to withdraw the case from court, saying he would settle the matter with my brother. Trusting him, I withdrew the case.”
“Subbanna failed to keep his word. Later, he was transferred from Tumkur. We met him at his office in Madivala, but he said he did not have any connection with the case,” she said.
