Family of 6 perish in property fight

A family of six including four children was found charred to death in their hut at Thoppuvalasai village in Ramanathapuram district on Monday. Police suspect it to be a case of murder over a property dispute.

Police said the family — Karuppaiah, 70, his daughter Kalimuthu, 30, her children Kaleeswari, 13, Balamurugan, 8, Saranya, 6, and Sakthi, 1 — were sleeping last night in a kutcha house they were living in when fire engulfed it. All the six perished in the ‘mysterious’ fire.

Since the house was located in an isolated grove, their cries were not heard and the ghastly incident came to light in the morning after passersby noticed the gutted house and the charred bodies inside, the police said.

A case of murder has been registered against five suspected accused. Five special teams have been formed to nab them.
