Eyewitness to sarpanch murder found dead
The lone eyewitness to the shocking murder wherein Haryana’s former transport minister and a chief parliamentary secretary are suspects, was found dead in Karnal city on Wednesday.
Confirming the development, Haryana police officials investigating the murder of former village sarpanch Karam Singh, who was stabbed to death only hours after he submitted a complaint against state transport minister Om Prakash Jain and CPS Zile Ram Sharma last week, said Charnail Singh, the lone witness who recently testified before the police, has also been killed.
“We found his body this morning and are trying to ascertain the cause of death,” said Karnal’s SP Mr. Rakesh Arya refusing however to share any more details other than that Charnail Singh belonged to Madlauda village in the neighbouring Panipat district.
Evidently also nervous about divulging any specifics of the ongoing murder investigation given that both suspects are senior state government functionaries, even the Haryana police top brass remained reticent.
The state’s director-general police Sharad Kumar only said: “We recorded Charnail Singh’s statement in connection with the Karam Singh Murder a couple of days ago. It would be very difficult to conclude anything about his (Charnail’s) murder at this stage. The Karnal police is investigating.” Intrestingly, the DGP’s own subordinates seem to know a lot more.
