Ex-judge plans poll debut
Bengaluru: Next month’s by-poll to Mandya Lok Sabha constituency could well witness the entry of former judge of Karnataka High Court Justice Chandrashekharaiah if Janata Dal (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda accedes to the request of the former Upa Lokayukta.
On Sunday, Justice Chandrashekharaiah called on Deve Gowda, his sons H.D. Revanna and H.D. Kumaraswamy, and expressed his desire to contest on a Dal (S) ticket as he hails from the hub of Vokkaliga politics.
While Deve Gowda responded positively and even told the former judge that he would be the ideal candidate to take on any nominee of the Congress, Kumaraswamy did not react even as his elder sibling Revanna reportedly expressed reservations over the prospect of a former judge entering the fray.
The sources told Deccan Chronicle that though the former judge would help the party solve the problem of finding an ideal candidate for Mandya, Deve Gowda and his kin were keen to nominate C S Puttaraju, who was contested unsuccessfully from Melkote Assembly constituency. Puttaraju is a die-hard supporter of Gowda and Revanna.
Actor Ramya the dark horse?
Though several aspirants in Congress, including former Nagamangala MLA L R Shivarame Gowda, are lobbying for a ticket on the premise that they would be re-nominated for next year’s polls to Lok Sabha, actress Ramya has emerged as the dark horse, hoping that her candidature will be supported by former external affairs minister S M Krishna.
Krishna, who recently wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, urging her not to entertain new-comers, however, playing his cards close to his chest. He has been asked to convince former Speaker Krishna, who has quit JD (S), to join the Congress and contest as its nominee from Mandya.
Sources in Congress said the actress does not have the backing of district in-charge minister M H Ambareesh as she did not campaign for him in Mandya during the recent elections to the Assembly.
