Even CAG report finds anomalies in funds
Adding to the NRHM blues, the report of the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG), which was tabled in the UP Assembly on Wednesday, has found gross anomalies in the management of funds allocated by the Centre for the implementation of the scheme to the state government.
The CAG report said that there were huge financial irregularities in the allocation and utilisation of funds and an estimated `396 crores were wasted by the state government.
The report further alleged that the state government did not maintain a proper balancesheet on the expenditure relating to the NRHM scheme.
The CAG report, which audited the funds allotted to the Uttar Pradesh government by the Centre between 2005-2011, found that an estimated `4,938 crores were misappropriated by the state officials.
The crucial report was tabled on Wednesday, nearly a month after the CBI filed its first chargesheet against former Uttar Pradesh bureaucrat P.K. Jain and others for the alleged irregularities in utilisation of the funds allocated under the NRHM scheme.
The investigating agency has so far filed 13 cases to probe the alleged irregularities in utilising `10,000-crore funds allocated under the Centrally-sponsored NRHM to Uttar Pradesh.
