Ensure women feel safe: Sheila
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit has asked the Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta to ensure the safety of women in the city. On being asked about the incident of kidnapping of a girl on Saturday night in the city, Ms Dikshit slammed the Delhi police on their data, which shows decline in crime.
“I don’t want to be happy with the crime graph of the police, all we need is a safer Delhi for women. I have spoken to the police commissioner to make the women feel safer. I want the situation to improve without any delay,” Ms Dikshit said.
However, the Delhi police praised their staff for nabbing the kidnappers in less than two hours. The incident occurred on Saturday night when two women employees at a Gurgaon mall had an altercation with five youth who followed them in their Scorpio, stopped their cab and abducted the victim. The cab driver called the police. The police arrested Kartar Singh and Pramod.
“We have set teams to raid the suspected hideouts of the accused. We are trying to nab them through technical surveillance,” said a senior police official.
One of the accused, Deepak Singh, is the son of a Haryana police officer.
