Elocution competition in Thackeray’s name?
The Shiv Sena, welcoming the BJP’s loss in Karnataka, may have strained ties between the alliance partners at the state level, but all seems well between the two parties in the BMC. In fact, a BJP corporator has demanded that the BMC should a start an elocution competition in the name of late Sena chief Bal Thackeray to promote oratory skills of city students.
In a notice of motion tabled in the BMC general body meeting, BJP corporator Vinod Shelar has said that Mr Thackeray was a great orator and an elocution competition by his name would inspire the city students. He further added that the competition should be held in age-wise categories in civic schools.
“The BMC every year organises a city-level drawing competition, which draws a good response from students. On the line of this competition, the civic body should organise an elocution competition for school students. It will not only give exposure to the elocution talent among the students, but will also provide a nice platform for them to exhibit this talent,” said Mr Shelar.
Balasaheb was a great orator, who had a great command over his language and used to leave his audience spellbound each time he spoke. By taking inspiration from him, students from municipal schools in the future can become good orators in this country, he added.
He further added that such a competition would help the civic officials and politicians to get opinions and expectations of the younger generation to make Mumbai a truly international city.
“The notice of motion would be tabled before the civic house, and if approved, would be sent to the concerned authorities for further action,” said a civic official.
