ED seeks Ramdev trust info

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought transaction details of accounts of two trusts linked to Baba Ramdev from a public sector bank in Delhi. The details have been sought in connection with the agency’s ongoing probe into alleged overseas investments and transactions carried out by organisations associated with the yoga guru.

The agency has also written to the Registrar of Companies to get details about acquisition of a large number of companies, manufacturing ayurvedic medicines, made by trusts associated with Ramdev in different parts of the country.
“Initial reports with the agency suggest that trusts associated with Ramdev allegedly acquired almost all ayurvedic medicines companies of Uttaranchal in the last one year. The agency officials are collecting details about the companies which have been recently acquired by Ramdev’s trusts”, sources said. It is also believed that two trusts (associated with Ramdev) allegedly played crucial role in acquisition of companies based in Uttaranchal and western Uttar Pradesh, sources added.
The agency officials have also sought transaction details of accounts of these two trusts. Sources, however, refused to divulge the names of these trusts associated with Ramdev.
“The agency has written to the Registrar of Companies in this regard also. The agency is expected to get reply very soon. If required two close aides of Ramdev—Balkrishna and Mukta Nand—may be called for questioning by the ED”, sources said. The agency officials are in touch with authorities concerned in Hardwar also.
There are at least 44 companies with whom Balkrishna allegedly associated with are under the scanner of the ED. Sources said organisations associated with Ramdev allegedly formed 29 companies, most of them manufacturing ayurvedic medicines, in 2009 and Balkirishna was appointed as director in them. The agency officials are also examining documents submitted by these companies at the time of formation from the authorities concerned.
