ED may probe foreign contracts given by OC
The ED is likely to probe contracts awarded to companies based in France, Poland, Sweden and Germany by the organising committee (OC) of the Commonwealth Games-2010 for supplying athletics, boxing and gymnastics equipment for the Games. The directorate is already probing international monetary transactions pertaining to the contracts awarded to a London-based firm for the Queen’s Baton Relay and to an Australian firm for the opening and closing ceremony worth several crores of rupees by the OC.
According to sources, the OC awarded the contract for supplying athletics equipment to France-based Dima Sport (`2.79 crores), Poland-based Polanik (`10 lakhs) and Sweden-based Nordic Sport AB (`53 lakhs). There are reports that certain changes were allegedly made in the contract agreements signed with these companies as per their choice by the OC, sources said. They added that the directorate is expected to collect the contract agreements from the OC. “ED is also expected to collect the agreement documents signed with Germany-based Budoland (`92 lakhs) for supplying boxing equipment and another France-based company, Gymnova for supplying gymnastics equipment worth `2.52 crores for the Games. The France-based company is also supplying gymnastics equipment worth `1.60 crores for artistic men’s gymnastics event.” sources said.
