EC notice to Alagiri for model code violation
In a curious coincidence, on a day when there was a rift in the DMK-Congress alliance, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Union minister for chemicals and fertilisers, M.K. Alagiri for allegedly violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls. Mr Alagiri is the son of DMK supremo M.Karunanidhi. He’s been asked to reply to the show-cause notice by March 7. The EC notice noted that though Mr Alagiri was on an official visit to Chennai yet he also indulged in political activities in his home district of Madurai.

UP minister driver shot at, car looted

March 5: In an incident that could be a reflection of the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, a private vehicle belonging to the state health minister Anant Kumar Misra was stolen after his driver was shot at and critically injured by some unidentified persons in Kanpur district on Saturday.
According to police reports, some armed men stopped the vehicle of the minister near Aryanagar circle and opened fire at driver, Rajesh, leaving him seriously injured. The miscreants then fled with the car.

Ajmal sues Madani for defamation

March 5: The All-India United Democratic Front chief Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal filed a defamation suit of `101 crores against president of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Arsha Madani at the Gauhati high court on Friday.
The AIUDF chief has taken Mr Madani to court for his recent remark accusing AIUDF chief of taking `55 crores from BJP for the Assembly elections.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind suffered a split when Mr Ajmal took over the reins of the newly-floated Assam Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in the wake of the Jamiat’s dismissal of its state unit, of which the perfume baron was the president.

March 5: Another BSP MLA in Uttar Pradesh is heading for trouble.
An FIR has been lodged against Bala Prasad Awa-sthi, BSP MLA from Dhaurhara in Lakhimpur district on Saturday, for allegedly manhandling media persons during the coverage of an alleged eve-teasing incident. A case has been lodged against the BSP MLA his gunner, driver and some others for manhandling the media persons who had gone to Beltua village in connection with the eve-teasing case involving a dalit woman.
