EC meets on Deb’s black money charge
The full bench of the EC on Monday discussed the media reports on CPI(M) central committee member Gautam Deb’s allegations over the use of “black money” worth `100 crores by the Trinamul Congress in the Assembly elections. A top EC official said from New Delhi that the Commission was examining the reports. “The EC is yet to take a decision on whether to order a probe into the allegations. However, the political parties can raise fund by issuing coupons,” the official informed.
On being asked whether the Commission had received any formal complaint from Mr Deb or from the CPI(M) over the use of “black money” by the Trinamul Congress in the state Assembly polls, the official said, “No as of yet. However, if any complaint is lodged with us, we will definitely examine it and if necessary will order a probe.”
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Mr Deb had asked, “Each but one of the 226 Trinamul candidates has been provided `15 lakhs in cash. From where did they get this massive amount of `33.9 crores?” He had also accused Trinamul Congress leader and Central minister Mukul Roy as the “main player of this fishy money game.”
