Durga’s suspension is quietly revoked in UP
After facing severe criticism, the Akhilesh Yadav government has quietly revoked the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who was removed as Greater Noida SDM after taking on the powerful sand mafia.
“Her suspension was revoked four days ago, but she was asked not to disclose (this) as we don’t want another controversy. For the time being, she will be attached to the board of revenue, and is likely to get a fresh posting in a month or two,” a highly-placed source said. Ms Nagpal was attached to the board of revenue after her suspension on July 27.
Ms Nagpal was given a warning by the state government and “advised” to seek the directions of her seniors on sensitive and controversial issues in future. This is a clear reference to the alleged demolition of a mosque wall in Kandalpur village of Greater Noida, that was officially the reason for her suspension.
The state appointments department, when contacted, refused to “confirm or deny” that her suspension had been revoked. Ms Nagpal herself remained completely inaccessible to the media Thursday, and her cellphone was switched off.
Sources said the suspension was withdrawn as the Assembly session begins Monday, and the Opposition was expected to raise the issue.
