DoPT notifies CBI probe into Ranvir Sena chief’s murder
The department of personnel and training (DoPT) on Monday notified a CBI probe into the killing of Ranvir Sena supremo Brahmeshwar Singh, alias Mukhiya. Mukhiya, founder of the militia of big landholders and middle-class peasants in south Bihar plains, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bhojpur district on June 1, 2012.
Sources said, “The CBI will soon constitute a team of its officials to probe the case. The agency is expected to register a fresh case to probe the murder of Mukhiya in a day or two.” Immediately after registering the case, the CBI will send a team of its officials to the spot where Mukhiya was shot dead, they added.
Unidentified gunmen killed Mukhiya weeks after his acquittal by the Patna high court in the 1996 Bathani Tola carnage in which 21 people were killed. The killing had sparked off widespread violence in Ara (Bhojpur) and other parts of the city.
“CBI officials will collect all relevant documents related to the case from the Bihar police, which probed the case earlier. The agency will also seek custody of all other crucial evidence collected by the Bihar police in connection with the case,” sources said.
It is believed that the state police has already filed a chargesheet against six persons in Ranvir Sena chief murder case. “The agency sleuths will certainly scrutiny the probe report filed by the police pertaining to the case. CBI will file its chargesheet on the basis of its investigation,” sources said.
